By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): As the FIFA World Cup captures the attention of millions around the globe, one Belizean family’s story is serving as a reminder of just how deeply football is woven into Belize’s culture.

The Lindo family, now based in Los Angeles, traces its football passion directly back to Belize, where family patriarch John Lindo first fell in love with the sport.

“We grew up playing soccer in the streets, me and my boys,” Lindo recalled. “That’s all we did all day. Play soccer. Eat mangos. Go back and play soccer.”

It’s a scene that many Belizeans can instantly relate to.

Today, that same love of the game has been passed on to his three sons, all of whom play football at a high level.

Twelve-year-old Marlon is currently coached by his father, while 20-year-old Raymond recently competed in a tournament in Barcelona, Spain, one of the sport’s most iconic football destinations.

Sixteen-year-old Jacob, considered one of the family’s top prospects, has already trained at a Paris Saint-Germain academy and participated in a tournament in Paris. Although he is currently recovering from knee surgery, the World Cup season continues to inspire him as he works toward returning to the field.

For the Lindo family, football is about more than winning games. It is about discipline, perseverance, family, and heritage.

Jacob’s mother, Mira, says sports teach valuable life lessons, including resilience and determination in the face of setbacks.

As the World Cup unfolds, the family’s story highlights the lasting influence Belize continues to have on its people, even when they are living abroad.

From dusty streets and neighborhood fields in Belize to tournaments in Europe, the Lindo family’s journey reflects the dreams shared by countless young footballers across the country.

And as Belizeans cheer for their favorite teams during the World Cup, many may recognize a little bit of themselves in a family whose football story began with a ball, a street, and a few mango trees.
