By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize’s new Integrity Commission was officially sworn into office today during a ceremony held at Belize House in Belmopan.
The seven-member commission took their oath before Governor General H.E. Dame Froyla Tzalam, pledging to uphold the rule of law and carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The Integrity Commission plays a key role in Belize’s good governance framework. Under the law, the commission is responsible for examining the financial declarations of public officers, monitoring compliance with disclosure requirements, and investigating allegations of corruption involving persons in public life.
Officials say the commission’s work is intended to promote transparency, accountability, and public confidence in government institutions.
The swearing-in comes at a time when issues of public accountability and government spending are receiving heightened national attention.
Members of the commission are expected to begin carrying out their statutory duties immediately, including reviewing declarations submitted by public officials and addressing any matters that fall within their legal mandate.
The government says the commission forms an important part of Belize’s broader efforts to strengthen integrity, transparency, and trust in public service.
