Why every Belizean should want the PUP government to succeed

By Horace Palacio: When NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said, “We want President Trump to succeed,” he wasn’t talking politics; he was talking about progress. His point was simple: when the leader of your country succeeds, the country succeeds. It’s not about party colors. It’s about national outcomes. Belize needs that same mindset now more than ever.

Every Belizean, whether blue, red, or independent, should want the People’s United Party government to succeed. Because when the government succeeds, the economy grows. Jobs increase. Tourism thrives. Roads get fixed. Small businesses expand. When the government fails, everyone feels it: the shop owner, the farmer, the teacher, and the taxi driver. Success in government is not just political. It’s personal.

Too often in Belize, politics divides us more than it builds us. We treat governance like a football match, cheering when the other side loses, even if it means the whole country loses with them. That mindset is toxic. We cannot keep pulling in opposite directions and expect the nation to move forward. The truth is, if the PUP government collapses, the economy doesn’t punish only the politicians. It punishes all of us.

Supporting the government’s success doesn’t mean blind loyalty. It means holding leaders accountable while still hoping they get it right. It means giving constructive criticism, not constant destruction. It means celebrating progress when it happens, whether it’s a new road, a better school, or lower crime, because those wins belong to every Belizean, not just one political party.

Belize is too small to waste energy on division. Our challenges, high cost of living, limited job opportunities, education reform, and climate resilience, are bigger than politics. We need everyone, from every district, every walk of life, to pull together. A rising Belize lifts every citizen, regardless of which flag they wave.

So yes, we should all want the PUP government to succeed. Because their success means more than political bragging rights. It means a stronger economy, safer communities, and a brighter future for our children.

If we spent less time fighting each other and more time building together, Belize could achieve in ten years what others take decades to do. Let’s stop waiting for failure to feel vindicated. Let’s start demanding success and working toward it, together.

Belize will not rise because one party wins an election. It will rise when all Belizeans want their government, their country, and each other to succeed.
