By Breaking Belize News Staff: Pedro Baki, a man awaiting trial for Unlawful Sexual Intercourse (USI) with a minor, appeared unrepresented before Justice Derick Sylvester in the High Court yesterday. Baki was one of 20 individuals facing criminal charges during the session.

When questioned by Justice Sylvester about his intent to secure legal representation, Baki requested a two-month extension to seek an attorney. Justice Sylvester denied the specific request, noting that two months was too much time. However, the judge did grant an extension, giving Baki until July 7, 2026, to retain counsel.

Baki’s next court appearance is scheduled for that July 7 date, during which his arraignment will take place and a formal plea will be entered.

During yesterday’s proceedings, Baki was also provided with his Case Management Conference (CMC) form. Justice Sylvester instructed him to hand the document to his future attorney so that it can be formally filed with the High Court.

The incident leading to Baki’s USI charge reportedly occurred in February 2025. Following his initial arrest, Baki spent several months on remand at the Belize Central Prison before successfully making bail on June 9, 2025.
