By Breaking Belize News Staff: A late-night fire on Bullock Island, owned by former NBA star Reggie Bullock, over the weekend engulfed a restaurant structure, but all persons on the island were accounted for and unharmed, and the resort has since resumed full operations.

According to police, officers responded to a report of a fire at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the island’s general manager, who reported that he had been asleep in his cabin when he awoke to a bright glare outside.

The manager said that upon investigating, he discovered the island’s thatch-roof wooden restaurant building engulfed in flames. Efforts were made to extinguish the blaze; however, the fire damage was significant.

At the time of the incident, six persons were on the island, including the manager and five maintenance workers. No injuries were reported.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

In a statement issued today, management of Bullock Island confirmed that the fire was contained to the restaurant structure and did not impact other areas of the property. The island’s accommodations, recreational spaces, and other amenities remain fully functional.

Management also emphasized that guest safety was never compromised and that operations resumed swiftly following the incident. The resort has already begun communicating with guests who have upcoming reservations to provide reassurance.

While the damaged restaurant is currently no longer in use, the island continues to offer dining and hospitality services through its other facilities.

Looking ahead, Bullock Island is preparing to host its previously scheduled Mother’s Day event on May 10, as well as its annual summer camp in June. The camp, which focuses on discipline, teamwork, and life skills, is expected to welcome children for a one-day developmental experience featuring guest speakers from various professional fields.

Management reiterated its commitment to safety and guest experience, noting that the island remains “open, thriving, and ready to welcome” visitors in the weeks ahead.
