By Breaking Belize News Staff: An interdicted police officer already facing the court on sexual offense allegations is back in custody after being charged with four counts of rape of a child.
Dexter Diego, a police officer of Dangriga, was escorted to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday afternoon, where he appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6. Around 2:30 p.m., he was read four indictable charges of rape.
The allegations are that Diego committed three acts of rape against a minor when the child was 10 years and 2 months old, and a fourth act when the minor was 11 years and 7 months old. The court was told the incidents allegedly occurred on multiple occasions in December 2024 and once again in 2025.
Due to the nature of the offenses, which fall under Section 16 of the Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act, the Magistrate was unable to consider bail. Diego was therefore remanded to the Belize Central Prison until July 8, 2026.
Diego is no stranger to the court. On August 11, 2023, he was arraigned on five counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, in relation to a 14-year-old. That matter has since been committed to the High Court, where he is to stand trial.
Monday’s arraignment introduces new allegations involving a younger minor on four separate occasions. Diego remains on remand as the matter proceeds.
