Albert Lincoln Garnett, 42, of Vista Del Mar, appeared unrepresented on Monday morning before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where he was read two charges: taking a motor vehicle without authority and damage to property.

Garnett admitted to taking a 2011 black Toyota Sienna van valued at $28,000, and using it without permission. The vehicle later ended up mounted on a barrier at the Shell Gas Station in Ladyville following a crash.

In court, an emotional Garnett expressed remorse, stating, “I mek wah mistake and I regret it. [The complainant] is a good man… I should ah never do that because he always got meh back.”

For his guilty plea, Garnett was handed a non-custodial sentence and fined $505 on each count, totaling $1,010. He has until August 7, 2026 to pay, in default serving three months imprisonment for each offense.

According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday, May 2, 2026, around 8:36 p.m., when officers responded to reports of a traffic accident at the Shell Gas Station compound in Ladyville. Upon arrival, they observed the damaged van mounted on a barrier, with Garnett seated in the driver’s seat.

Investigations revealed that the van had been left in Garnett’s care at Rustic Korner Marina while the owner, was away in San Pedro. The owner told police he had only given Garnett access to a copy of the key to deactivate the alarm and safeguard the vehicle, not to use it.

Garnett was subsequently detained and charged, leading to today’s conviction.
