By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man who stole a $10 Dove cream from a store has been ordered to pay more than 40 times its value after pleading guilty in court.
Corey Allan Sebastian, 31, a father of two, appeared unrepresented on Monday morning before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where he was charged with a single count of theft.
Sebastian admitted to stealing a Dove Go Fresh moisturizing cream valued at $10 from Tong Hay Tuen Fast Food Store on Baymen Avenue. The incident was captured on surveillance footage, which showed him paying for an Avon roll-on but leaving the establishment with the Dove cream hidden in his pocket.
“I nuh deh yah feh waste my time, your time or the court time,” Sebastian told the court as he pleaded guilty, adding that he was sorry for his actions and asking for a fine.
The court imposed a non-custodial sentence, fining him $400 plus $5 court costs, totaling $405—approximately 40 times the value of the stolen item. As a first-time offender, Sebastian avoided jail time and was given until June 4, 2026 to pay.
Police reports indicate that the theft occurred on April 30, 2026. The store owner, a 59-year-old Asian businessman, became suspicious after recognizing Sebastian from previous footage and later confirmed through surveillance that the item had not been paid for.
Sebastian remains out of custody pending payment of the fine.
