By Zoila Palma: The Caribbean Tourism Organization has opened its Sustainable Tourism Conference 2026 in Belize under the theme, “Tourism in Full Color: Integrating Blue, Green, Orange, and Beyond Economies into Sustainable Planning and Development.”

The event brings together regional leaders and industry stakeholders to chart a more sustainable and inclusive path forward for Caribbean tourism.

The spotlight was on Belize during the Orange Economy in Action panel discussion held during the opening on April 27, 2026.

The session featured Kim Vasquez, Director of the Institute of Creative Arts; Ishmael Quiroz, Executive Director of BELTRAIDE; Ronelli Requena, Creative Director of Zayvha Sarai; and was moderated by Emilio Thomas.

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) says that this engaging discussion explored Belize’s orange economy through shared experiences and practical insights. The conversation affirmed culture as Belize’s competitive advantage, where authenticity is not curated but lived.

Speakers emphasized that culture remains central to the Belizean experience, while also addressing the importance of ownership and value creation around cultural products.
