By Breaking Belize News Staff: A police officer has reported sustaining injuries following a patrol vehicle accident in the early hours of Friday, April 24th, 2026, while on duty at the Burrell Boom Police Station.

According to the account, the incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. when the assigned driver reportedly fell asleep while operating the police mobile, causing it to crash into a BEL lamp post. The officer sustained injuries to the head and chest, while the driver suffered facial injuries and complained of pain before leaving the scene to seek medical attention at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).

The injured officer remained at the station and informed a supervisor, who arranged for assistance from Ladyville Police. However, the officer claims there was a delay in receiving medical attention despite experiencing severe pain, including bleeding from the mouth, chest tightness, and a severe headache.

The officer stated that he accompanied responding personnel to secure a police motorcycle and assist with scene-related duties before eventually being transported to the hospital at approximately 5:00 a.m., nearly two hours after the accident.

At the hospital, the officer reported further concerns regarding the handling of medical procedures and subsequent requests made by supervising personnel.
