By Aaron Humes: For the third time in as many weeks, the Belize Police Department is investigating the discovery of a decomposed body found along the shoreline behind the Port of Belize Limited on Friday. This follows the recent tragic deaths of two teenagers in the area.
The body, which remains unidentified, was reportedly discovered around 12:44 PM by a fisherman. Police stated that there are no visible signs of injury on the remains, leading them to currently suspect that foul play is not involved.
Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Stacy Smith addressed the media: “We have not been able to ascertain the identity of the individual. However, we are hoping that the clothing that is, that the that is on the body would aid in this process. I was advised that no visible injury was observed. There is nothing to suggest that it’s foul play at this time. However, the autopsy will provide further clarity as to that. Whilst it is behind the Port of Belize Limited, that particular area, one is in the shoreline and the other was on land to my knowledge, certainly any life loss is of interest to the police department and that is why we have been conducting numerous operations and have been boosting those areas of concern.”
The deceased was dressed in a black T-shirt, khaki pants, and black-and-white Nike tennis shoes.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Richard Rosado acknowledged the community’s fears and assured them of the Department’s commitment to addressing missing person issues. “It is of a concern to the Police Department, and we have been discussing with our senior command on how we can strategize to address those issues of missing persons. I know that we have put a lot of efforts in locating them, and we have been making progress, and I want to assure the families of those missing persons that we are doing all that is possible to ensure that we bring closure to them,” Rosado stated.
