Belize Tourism Board launches “Beyond Blue: Belize’s Great Dive for Sustainability”

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) successfully launched Beyond Blue: Belize’s Great Dive for Sustainability, a four-day immersive experience held April 22–25, 2026, in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.

BTB noted that this event brought together international media, content creators, dive professionals, and conservation advocates to explore Belize’s marine ecosystems and sustainable tourism model first-hand.

Hosted at Sunset Caribe Belize, the event combines guided dives at some of the country’s most iconic sites, including the Great Blue Hole, Half Moon Caye Wall, the WIT Concrete Shipwreck, and Hol Chan Marine Reserve, with curated networking sessions and conservation-focused discussions. Each site offers a distinct view into Belize’s marine biodiversity and the ongoing efforts to protect it. Among the participants is Claudio Brandileone, PADI Regional Manager for Central America, whose involvement underscores the event’s significance within the global dive community.

“Beyond Blue is designed to bridge experience and advocacy,” said Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations. “The event positions Belize not only as a premier dive destination, but as a leader in responsible marine tourism. Through editorial coverage and social-first storytelling, it reinforces Belize’s standing in the global dive market while spotlighting the importance of conservation-driven tourism development.”

Daily dives are complemented by evening “Deep Dive Sessions,” featuring expert representatives from the Belize Audubon Society, the Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association, Hol Chan Marine Reserve, and the Ministry of Blue Economy and Marine Conservation, each providing insight into site-specific conservation strategies and protection frameworks.

The event welcomes a diverse group of international media and digital storytellers from North America, Europe, and Latin America. Coverage spans leading outlets, including Dive Magazine (UK), Plongez Magazine and Subaqua (France), Notable Life (Canada), Folha de São Paulo (Brazil), Lonely Planet, Dive in Magazine, and PADI / Scuba Diving Magazine (USA), alongside broadcast coverage from Canal 26 in Argentina. Digital storytellers include Matador Network and a range of independent travel and dive-focused creators.

While Beyond Blue introduces participants to world-renowned dive sites, including the Great Blue Hole, it equally draws attention to something less visible but just as significant – the fact that these ecosystems continue to exist in their current state and that continuity stands as a direct result of sustained conservation work and long-term regulatory commitment.

The Belize Tourism Board thanks Sunset Caribe, MADISCO Belize, Travellers Liquors Belize, Bowen & Bowen Ltd., Tropic Air Belize, Ramon’s Village Resort, Belize Pro Dive Center, Belize Audubon Society, Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association, and Hol Chan Marine Reserve for their sponsorship.

Through initiatives like Beyond Blue, Belize continues to demonstrate that sustainable tourism is not just an aspiration but also a model in practice, one that prioritizes depth over display and long-term value over short-term visibility.
