By Breaking Belize News Staff: Just eight days after turning 18, Belize City resident James Saldano, also known as “Scrubbing Board,” has been formally charged as an adult and remanded to prison in connection with a March 5 shooting that left a man seriously injured.
Saldano, a construction worker of M&M Street and the younger brother of the late Edward Saldano, alias “Scrubbie,” appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 on Wednesday morning. He was read three indictable offenses: attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and grievous harm upon Tyrel Andrewin.
Police allege that Saldano was the gunman in the March 5 incident on Plues Street in Belize City. According to investigators, Tyrel Andrewin was seated inside a parked vehicle when a van pulled up and an occupant opened fire, injuring him.
After spending several days in police custody, Saldano was escorted to court around 10:00 a.m. and arraigned approximately an hour later. Due to the serious nature of the charges, he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 17, 2026.
Saldano’s legal situation has escalated significantly following his recent transition into adulthood. On March 11, while still 17, he had been jointly charged alongside others—including Gevin Armstrong, a minor, and Antwan King—for separate offenses of keeping an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of a controlled drug. Those charges stemmed from a police operation on Electric Avenue based on intelligence from the Special Branch Firearm Team.
Police continue to investigate the Plues Street shooting as the case against Saldano moves forward in the courts.
