By Zoila Palma: Today, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST), in partnership with UNICEF, officially hosted the Girls in ICT 2026 Day.
The event was held at the Grand Resort and Residences in Belize City under the recurring theme, “Lead Like A 501Girl.”
The event highlights a shared commitment to advancing digital equity and fostering STEM opportunities for young women throughout Belize.
“Through interactive technical sessions involving cryptography and drone flight coding, the initiative provides participants with the foundational skills to navigate and lead within the global Information and Communication Technology landscape, ensuring a more inclusive and innovative future for the nation’s digital economy,” the Ministry explained.
“Girls can lead, create, and shape the future and UNICEF is helping make it happen. Proud to partner with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, on the #LeadLikeAGirl initiative, empowering girls across Belize to explore STEAM pathways and build future‑ready skills. Today, UNICEF Representative Sajid Ali spoke at the opening ceremony, reaffirming our commitment to strong female role models and opportunities in STEAM and ICT,” UNICEF Belize expressed.
