Man’s jail stay extended as verdict in burglary case delayed due to shortened Court hours

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A decision in the burglary case against Lennox Gentle has been delayed once more, leaving the accused man on remand at the Belize Central Prison for at least a few more days.

Gentle, who has been in custody for nearly three months, appeared before a Senior Magistrate on Friday at around midday expecting a ruling in his burglary matter. Instead, he was informed that the case would be adjourned again.

The delay was reportedly due to shortened court hours, as proceedings ended at 2:00 p.m., preventing the magistrate from delivering the anticipated verdict.

The Senior Magistrate, who has been traveling between Belize City and Belmopan, is now expected to hand down her decision on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

In the meantime, Gentle has been further remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

Court records indicate that Gentle’s bail was revoked on Friday, January 16, 2026, and he has remained on remand since that date. In addition to the burglary case, he also has a separate firearm matter pending trial in the lower court.
