By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 24-year-old Belize City man walked free from court on Friday after a gang membership charge against him was dismissed due to a defect in the charge sheet.

Julian Emilio Woodye appeared before the Chief Magistrate in Court #1, where the court noted that the charge sheet was defective because it failed to include a date of occurrence in the body of the charge.

Because of the omission, the Chief Magistrate dismissed the matter and informed Woodye that he no longer needed to return to court in relation to the case.

Woodye had originally been arraigned on Thursday, May 2, 2024, in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a charge of being a member of a gang.

Police had alleged that Woodye was a member of the George Street Clique, also referred to as the George Street Gang (GSG), which authorities say is engaged in the commission of serious offenses.

With the charge struck out on procedural grounds, Woodye was released from any further obligation to appear before the court on the matter.
