Woman robbed of $15,000 in gold jewelry at Belize City market

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating a robbery that occurred on Saturday afternoon at the Michael Finnegan Market in Belize City, where a woman was attacked and robbed of gold jewelry valued at $15,000.

Reports indicate that around 1:00 p.m., a Belizean-American nurse assistant of Mahogany Street, was packing up her stall along West Collet Canal when she was approached from behind by two unknown men.

One of the suspects, described as wearing a red shirt, reportedly punched Welch to the right side of her face before grabbing two gold Cuban link chains from her neck. The second suspect, dressed in a black shirt, assisted in the robbery.

The stolen items include one gold chain with a cross pendant valued at $9,300 and another with a “Y” initial valued at $5,700.

Both suspects fled the area on foot along West Collet Canal toward the Raccoon Street area.

Police visited the scene and issued a medico-legal form to the victim. Investigators have also reviewed surveillance footage, which reportedly provided useful leads. Investigations are ongoing.
