By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Minister of Transport Dr. Louis Zabaneh has made it clear that bus operators cannot raise fares on their own, despite the recent spike in diesel prices.
Following reports that some operators began increasing fares shortly after the fuel hike, the ministry issued a firm warning reminding them that such actions are illegal without approval.
Dr. Zabaneh emphasized that all bus operators must adhere to regulated fare structures, regardless of rising fuel costs.
He noted that while the impact of higher diesel prices is understood, any adjustments must go through the proper regulatory process.
Officials have already reached out to operators attempting to increase fares, advising them to remain within the legally approved limits.
The ministry says it will continue monitoring the situation to ensure compliance and protect commuters from unauthorized increases.
