Premier League of Belize: Wagiya SC earn first win of the season with 2–1 victory over struggling Port Layola

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Wagiya SC celebrated their first win of the 2025-2026 PLB Closing Championship on Sunday afternoon, defeating Port Layola FC 2–1 at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga. The victory comes just one week after Wagiya earned their first point of the season, marking a clear step forward for the Dangriga side, while Port Layola continue to struggle near the bottom of the standings.

Wagiya opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Clay Flores finished confidently to give the home side a 1–0 lead. But Port Layola responded just before halftime, with Shawn Young equalizing in the 44th minute, sending the match into the break level at 1–1.

The second half remained tight, but Wagiya found the decisive moment in the 79th minute, when Clay Flores struck again to complete his brace and restore the lead. Port Layola pushed forward in the closing minutes, but Wagiya held firm to secure the 2–1 win.

The result lifts Wagiya to four points, while Port Layola remain stuck on six points, continuing a difficult run of form as the second round progresses.
