Based on Julia Álvarez’s novel, In the Time of the Butterflies [En el tiempo de Las Mariposas], the play being performed at Repertorio Español was written by Caridad Svich and is directed by José Zayas. Backstage writes, “Zayas’ inventive production, in which the use of video projections and animation help create a poetic language of stagecraft. The seven-member cast is effective in reminding us that, in past eras too, despots only seemed invincible.” [Running time: 1 hr 40 min. No intermission. Recommended for all audiences.]
Although this Friday’s show (February 27, 2026) is sold out, there are tickets available for Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 2:00pm and other dates in March. Repertorio Español is located at 138 East 27th Street, New York, New York.
