By Zoila Palma: Belize’s tourism sector continues to post steady and measured growth, according to preliminary 2025 arrival figures released by the Belize Tourism Board (BTB).
Building on strong gains recorded in 2024, both overnight and cruise tourism show that Belize has moved beyond post-pandemic recovery and is now experiencing sustained positive momentum.
“Belize’s tourism sector continues to show steady and measured growth,” the BTB said.
Overnight tourism remains a key pillar of that growth.
BTB projects 551,698 overnight visitor arrivals for 2025, representing a 0.8 percent increase over 2024’s total of 547,370.
According to the release, “Belize is not merely rebounding but beginning to stabilize at a higher post-pandemic performance level.”
When compared to pre-pandemic benchmarks, the gains are even more pronounced.
Overnight arrivals in 2024 exceeded 2019 levels by 8.8 percent, rising from 503,166 in 2019 to 547,370.
That upward trend is expected to continue.
The BTB emphasized that this performance shows Belize has “effectively surpassed its pre-pandemic ceiling and entered a new growth phase for overnight tourism.”
Cruise tourism is also demonstrating strong forward momentum.
For 2025, cruise passenger arrivals are projected to reach 967,214, an 8.1 percent increase over the 894,405 recorded in 2024.
The BTB described this expansion as a clear sign that “Belize’s cruise sector is not only recovering, but also re-entering a growth trajectory,” supported by increased port calls, stronger destination demand and expanded cruise itineraries.
The BTB credited the progress to the collective efforts of tourism stakeholders across the country, citing continued investment and collaboration throughout the industry.
The BTB expressed optimism for the coming year, stating that “as 2026 unfolds, the industry is well-positioned to build on this progress.”
