By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 22-year-old barber from Carmelita Village has been sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to stealing a vehicle and cellphone belonging to a Belize City engineer, but will serve only one year after the court ordered the sentences to run concurrently.

Anzur Jenkins appeared this week before Magistrate Mannon Dennison in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of theft. The charges stem from the theft of a black 2010 Infiniti vehicle valued at $22,000 and a $1,000 iPhone owned by an engineer of Sunflower Street, Belize City.

For his guilty plea, Jenkins received a one-year custodial sentence for the theft of the vehicle and six months for the theft of the cellphone. Magistrate Dennison ruled that both sentences arise from the same circumstances and should therefore run concurrently, resulting in an effective sentence of 12 months.

The court heard that on the night of Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the owner reported to the Crime Investigation Branch that his vehicle and phone had been stolen between 11:00 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. An all-points bulletin was issued, and in the early hours of Wednesday, October 8, the vehicle was intercepted on the George Price Highway in front of a nightclub in San Ignacio.

Police found Jenkins inside the stolen vehicle along with the blue iPhone. He was detained and later handed over to Belize City police. The complainant subsequently identified the recovered items as his property.

During a police interview on October 9, Jenkins admitted, in the presence of a justice of the peace, that he had taken the vehicle and phone without permission and driven to Cayo. He was initially arraigned on October 10, when he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail, but later changed his plea, leading to his conviction and sentence.
