By Zoila Palma: Abraham Isaac Quintanilla Jr., the father of late Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla and a central figure in her career, has died at the age of 86.
The news was confirmed today by his son, Abraham “A.B.” Quintanilla III, who shared the announcement in an Instagram post expressing grief over his father’s passing. No cause of death has been disclosed.
Quintanilla was married to Marcella Quintanilla, and together they raised three children: A.B., Suzette, and Selena, who was tragically killed in 1995 at the age of 23.
Abraham played a pivotal role in managing Selena and her band, Selena y Los Dinos, in which A.B. performed on bass, Suzette played drums, and Selena’s husband, Chris Pérez, served as guitarist.
Before managing his children’s careers, Abraham himself was a musician and sang in an earlier version of Los Dinos.
Family members have credited Abraham’s own music industry experience with helping him recognize Selena’s extraordinary talent at an early age.
His influence and legacy were recently highlighted in the Netflix documentary Selena y Los Dinos: A Family’s Legacy, which premiered in November, as well as in Selena: The Series.
