By Breaking Belize News Staff: During the UDP convention held over the weekend, Moses “Shyne” Barrow delivered an address striking a tone of gratitude, transition, and unity as the party prepared for new leadership.
Barrow told delegates it had been “the greatest privilege of my life to serve as Party Leader,” reflecting on nearly four years at the helm after being elected in 2022 and endorsed again in 2023.
He thanked colleagues across the country for their loyalty and collaboration, emphasizing that the UDP’s strength rests on shared purpose, not individual leadership.
Centering his speech on the convention theme “Advancing Unity, Democracy and Prosperity for All,” Barrow said the party’s mission has always been to uplift Belizeans. “Our entire existence as the winningest mass Party in post-independence history is to lift our people up… give our people minimum standard of living that is first world,” he stated.
Barrow used the moment to underscore the importance of a smooth transition as the party prepares for new leadership under Opposition Leader Tracy Taegar Panton.
“As I engage in the peaceful, united transfer of leadership to my successor, I pray that the Creator impart her with the wisdom, knowledge, understanding and political will to execute effective strategies,” he said.
Despite stepping aside, Barrow declared his continued commitment to public service and the UDP.
“I will demonstrate my gratitude by continuing to serve in whatever capacity best helps the UDP and Belize,” he expressed.
