By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The XII Central American Games in Guatemala have come to a close, and Belize finished with 15 medals—a proud achievement for the country with the smallest delegation. The final day on Thursday brought two more bronze medals: one in Women’s 10-Ball Team Billiards and another in Sailing (ILCA 7), pushing the total to 1 gold, 2 silver, and 12 bronze.

Billiards stands out as Belize’s most successful sport, accounting for six medals—more than any other discipline. Canoeing followed with four; athletics earned two; and one medal each came from sailing, women’s volleyball, and men’s basketball.
The standout billiards performer was Nain Rosado, who captured three:
Gold in the Men’s 9-Ball Team event with Immer Lima
Bronze in the Men’s 9-Ball Individual
Bronze in the Men’s 8-Ball Team with Ailton Linarez
On the women’s side, Selvani Leiva earned three medals, and Karla Gillett claimed two:
Leiva – Women’s 8-Ball Individual
Leiva & Gillett – Women’s 8-Ball Team
Leiva & Gillett – Women’s 10-Ball Team
In the final day of competition, Selvani Leiva and Karla Gillett won the sixth billiards medal capturing bronze in the Women’s 10-Ball Team Championship.
In sailing, Trent Hardwick delivered a strong performance in the ILCA 7 event, earning Belize’s 12th bronze medal. Hardwick placed third in the regatta championship behind Guatemala’s Juan Ignacio Maegli and Diego Silvestre.
Belize’s Canoeing National Team — (L–R) Belize Canoe Association President Elvin Penner, Francisca Cruz-Pfaender, Ruth Cruz, Cristian Lopez, and Andres Cabb — won four medals at the XII Central American Games in Petén, Guatemala, on Friday, October 24, 2025. Photo credit: Belize Canoe Association

With medals across six disciplines—billiards, canoeing, athletics, volleyball, basketball, and sailing—Belize’s athletes have shown that talent and determination can overcome size and resources. Billiards led the charge, but the final day’s results reflect a broader competitive spirit.
As Belize looks ahead to future regional competitions, the message is clear: winning is possible, and with continued investment, belief, and preparation, Belize can climb even higher in the standings.
