XII Central American Games: Belize’s Jason Orosco named to basketball’s All-Star Five

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 🏀🇧🇿 Belizean forward Jason Orosco has earned a prestigious spot on the All-Star Five at the XII Central American Games Guatemala 2025, following an impressive tournament performance that helped propel Belize to its first-ever basketball medal at the regional event.

Orosco averaged 18.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists across five games, displaying consistency, dogged determination, and leadership on both ends of the court. His efforts were instrumental in Belize’s historic 85–72 bronze medal victory over hosts Guatemala, sealing a podium finish that marks a milestone for Belizean basketball.

🥇 Tournament Final and All-Star Five

The tournament, which ran from October 25 to 29, concluded with an exciting final where Nicaragua defeated Panama 78-73 to claim the gold medal.

Orosco’s selection to the All-Star Five places him among the elite performers of the Games and reflects Belize’s growing presence in regional basketball. The complete “Quinteto ideal de Centroamérica” (All-Star Five) for the men’s branch of the tournament is as follows:

  • MVP: Joost West (Nicaragua)
  • Nishon Thomas (Nicaragua)
  • Jonny Murillo (Panama)
  • Jason Orosco (Belize)
  • Emiliano Catalán (Guatemala)

The Belize Basketball Federation (BBF) celebrated Orosco’s achievement, stating:

⭐🏀🇧🇿 Jason Orosco XII Central American Games All Star Five Awardee. Jason had a dominant performance averaging 18.3 pts, 7.3 rebs & 1.8 asst for this competition.”

Meanwhile, the Guatemala National Basketball Federation (FNBG) commented on the All-Star announcement on social media, saying:

‘“Felicidades por su esfuerzo y el espectáculo que nos brindaron!!!”‘ which translates to: “Congratulations on your effort and the show you gave us!!!”

Bronze Medal Performance and Tournament Record

Orosco’s standout moment came in the bronze medal match, where he contributed 18 points and seven rebounds, backing up Tevaughan Dawson’s 27-point explosion. Belize had trailed 25–21 after the first quarter but surged ahead with a 31–14 second period, maintaining control until the final buzzer at the Gimnasio Nacional Teodoro Palacios Flores in Guatemala City.

Throughout the tournament, Orosco was a pillar of consistency:

  • Oct 25: 83–68 win over El Salvador
  • Oct 26: 72–43 win over Guatemala
  • Oct 27: 93–47 win over Honduras
  • Oct 28: 74–82 semifinal loss to Panama
  • Oct 29: 85–72 bronze medal win over Guatemala

The Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association hailed the Under-19 Belize National Basketball Team’s achievement, saying: “🏀 BRONZE FOR TEAM BELIZE! 🥉🇧🇿 What a game! Our boys came out on top over Guatemala to secure the bronze medal in men’s basketball at the Central American Games! 💪🏽🔥 Proud of the heart, hustle, and teamwork they showed from start to finish.”

With four wins from five games and a historic medal to show for it, Belize’s basketball team—and Jason Orosco in particular—have left an indelible mark on the 2025 Central American Games.
