By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) has expressed deep concern and solidarity with all Belizeans, particularly Belizean students currently studying in Jamaica, as the island faces the destructive impact of Hurricane Melissa.

In an official statement, the Ministry confirmed that it has been in close contact with the Government of Jamaica and the University of the West Indies (UWI). Both institutions have assured Belize that safety protocols, shelters, and emergency contingency plans are fully active to protect both local and international students.

The Ministry urged all Belizeans in Jamaica to remain vigilant, seek safe shelter, and adhere strictly to advisories issued by Jamaican authorities.

“The MoEST extends its thoughts and prayers to all those who may be affected and reaffirms its commitment to the continued safety and support of Belizean students abroad,” the release stated.

Officials say they will continue to monitor the situation closely in collaboration with regional partners to ensure that Belizeans remain safe during and after the passage of Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall as a Category 5 storm.
