By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 25-year-old Belize City stevedore has picked up his first drug conviction after he was caught with a small quantity of marijuana earlier this week.
Michael Bowen appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Mannon Dennison, where he was charged with possession of a controlled drug for having 13.6 grams of cannabis.
Bowen pleaded guilty to the charge without hesitation. The magistrate imposed a non-custodial sentence — a fine of $140 plus a $5 court cost, giving him until November 30, 2025 to pay, or serve one month in prison if he defaults.
Police say Bowen was stopped and searched on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, when officers found the marijuana in his possession. Before leaving the courtroom, he also cleared an outstanding $10 fine owed to the court.
