The Office of the Ombudsman announces that, in accordance with the Ombudsman Act, the Ombudsman’s Annual Report 2024 was formally submitted to the National Assembly and laid on the Table on Friday, 12 September 2025.
On Wednesday, 17 September 2025, the Ombudsman appeared before and briefed the Ombudsman Report Committee on the key findings, recommendations, and systemic issues highlighted in the 2024 Report.
The Report details the total number of complaints received by the Office, the breakdown by gender of complainants, and the government departments and public authorities most frequently identified in cases of maladministration. It further outlines major issues such as delays in service delivery, abuse of authority, neglect of duty, and the failure to follow proper procedures. The Annual Report also highlights significant matters, including the visit of the Ombudsman of Barbados, oversight during States of Emergency, and special reports on systemic concerns such as the neglect of mental health care within the Belize Coast Guard.
In keeping with the Office’s commitment to transparency and accountability, the Ombudsman will be conducting a media round from 30 September to 3 October 2025. During these engagements, the Ombudsman will provide the Belizean public with a detailed overview of the findings and recommendations of the Annual Report 2024.

Copies of the Ombudsman’s Annual Report 2024 are available on the official Ombudsman Website and can also be accessed at libraries across the country.
