By Breaking Belize News Staff: Today, 21-year-old Christy Guzman returned to the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court for the continuation of her bail hearing after being formally charged with manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of Belmopan resident and businessman, Wilson Hernandez.
Hernandez was shot and killed on Sunday, August 31, 2025 following an altercation with his common-law wife Dalia Vellos.
Guzman, who is Vellos’ niece reportedly pulled the trigger.
While both women claim self defence, there is public demand for charges to also be levied against Vellos since her licensed weapon was used in the shooting.
Presiding over the hearing is Magistrate Tricia Pitts, who will determine whether Guzman will be granted bail.
Guzman is being represented in court by attorney Hurl Hamilton.
