By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 21-year-old Belize City man is behind bars tonight after being charged with burglary but failing to meet bail requirements.
Albert Zetina, an unemployed resident of a Hunters Lane address, was arraigned on Thursday in Court #5 before a Magistrate on a single charge of burglary. He pleaded not guilty to allegations that he broke into the home of his neighbor, 64-year-old retiree, and stole a 32-inch Samsung flat screen TV, along with a chocolate bar and a sandwich from her refrigerator.
According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, around 10:50 a.m. Officers responded swiftly to reports of a burglary in progress on Hunters Lane and found Zetina caught in the act. He was immediately detained and handed over to investigators.
Despite the serious nature of the offense, there was no objection to bail, and the court granted Zetina bail in the sum of $5,000, plus two sureties of $2,500 each. However, because the court closed at 1:00 p.m. and Zetina was unable to process his bail in time, he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
The woman reported that upon returning home, she noticed several items missing and confirmed she had not given anyone permission to enter her home. Police visited an abandoned property at #9 Hunters Lane, where Zetina reportedly resides, but were unable to locate the stolen television.
Zetina is due back in court on September 25, 2025.
