Belize began its campaign at the Central America (CADICA) Senior Championships in Managua, Nicaragua with an impressive silver medal and two athletes advancing to finals on Day 1. Nine Belizean competitors are flying the flag proudly across track and field disciplines at the August 2–3 regional meet.
Brooklyn Lyttle Leaps to Silver
Long jumper Brooklyn Lyttle delivered Belize’s first medal of the championships with a silver in the Women’s Long Jump, landing at 5.57 metres. Her performance sets the tone for a team eager to make a mark in senior competition.

Finals Secured in 100m Sprints
Nyasha Harris qualified for the Women’s 100m Final with a clean run of 12.22 seconds, while Brandon Jones clocked 10.80 seconds in Men’s Heat 1 (+1.6 m/s wind), earning a finals berth on time. Though Shaun Gill (10.88s) and Kameron Gentle (11.07s) narrowly missed out, their performances were strong and encouraging.

Competition continues Saturday with several Belizeans poised for further success:
- Harris and Jones return for their respective 100m finals.
- Tamia Bennett (High Jump) and Elisha Rash (1500m) will make their senior debuts.
- Brandon Adolphus takes on both the 800m and 1500m.
- The Men’s 4x100m relay featuring Gill, Gentle, Usher Jr., and Jones could be a highlight depending on final event schedules.

The delegation is led by Head of Delegation Shelmadine Carr and Head Coach Frederick Evans. The Belize Athletics Association (BAA) praised the athletes’ passion and commitment, encouraging fans back home to tune in and support.
