By Aaron Humes: Leon Darrell Lamb, 31, was denied bail Tuesday during a court appearance following his recent arrest for burglary with intent to rape an 11-year-old girl. The hearing took place before the Chief Magistrate, who considered objections from the prosecution regarding the nature of the charges and Lamb’s past behavior.
The prosecution highlighted that he is currently facing two pending cases related to sexual offenses, including a rape trial in the High Court and sexual assault charges in the Lower Court. Given the seriousness of the new allegations, the prosecutor argued that Lamb poses a significant threat to the public.
Lamb, who has a history of sexual offenses—including six previous convictions—attempted to defend himself by stating that the charges are merely allegations and that he has been trying to reunite with his family since his release from prison two months ago. He expressed his fear of being placed in solitary confinement, known as “the hole,” for an extended period.
Despite Lamb’s pleas for leniency, the Chief Magistrate was unconvinced, noting his failure to comply with earlier bail conditions, including missing multiple mandatory sign-ins at the police station. Lamb was also accused of breaching his curfew, which restricts him from being out between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. The prosecutor emphasized these violations as evidence of Lamb’s disregard for the law and his potential to reoffend.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate stated, “You have shown this court that you do not honor bail conditions… These allegations show that you are a threat to society.” Consequently, Lamb was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his next appearance on October 3.
