By Aaron Humes: Police have announced the arrests of two men linked to separate burglary incidents that occurred earlier this month. Kevin Navarrete and Jafari Gonguez each face charges after investigations uncovered their involvement in distinct break-ins in the Belize District.
Kevin Navarrete, 28, of Boca del Rio area, San Pedro Town, was apprehended on June 16 following a break-in at an apartment in San Pedro. According to police reports, a female resident observed a male leaving her apartment around 1:30 p.m. on June 15. Upon checking her unit, she discovered two cell phones valued at over $750 had been stolen. Navarrete was formally charged with burglary in connection to this incident.
Meanwhile, twenty-four-year-old Jafari Gonguez of Curl Thompson Street, Belize City, was taken into custody on June 20. Police investigations into a separate case revealed that Gonguez attempted to steal a television from a woman’s Belize City home on May 25. The homeowner noticed that four louvers from her window were missing and found her television near the window, which she hadn’t left there. Crime scene technicians collected evidence at the scene, leading to Gonguez’s arrest and subsequent charge of burglary.
Police continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to aid in crime prevention.
