By Breaking Belize News Staff: A former Belize Coast Guard officer, 31-year-old Randolph Peter Coleman, appeared before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning to answer to two criminal charges stemming from a domestic dispute involving his common-law wife.
During his arraignment before a Senior Magistrate in Court #3, Coleman claimed he is still employed by the Coast Guard. However, official confirmation from the Belize Coast Guard revealed that Coleman has been dismissed from the force.
Coleman, who gave his address as #6633 Police Street, indicated he had recently been living on Pelican Street but is now relocating due to the incident. He was charged with one count of wounding and another count of taking conveyance without authority.
The charges allege that on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Coleman caused a wound to his common-law-wife and, without her permission, took a black 2016 Ford Fusion for his personal use. Coleman pleaded not guilty to the wounding charge. While initially pleading guilty to the conveyance charge and seeking clarification, the Magistrate ultimately entered a not guilty plea on his behalf to avoid any self-incrimination.
During the proceedings, the Magistrate issued strict bail conditions: Coleman must not contact McDonald directly or indirectly, must stay at least 100 yards away from her home, workplace, and other frequented areas, and is prohibited from reaching out to her family or any prosecution witnesses by any means, including through electronic communication.
Bail was granted at $2,000 plus one surety. Coleman, who has a prior conviction for aggravated assault and harm against the same woman, is scheduled to return to court on June 16, 2025.
