By Aaron Humes: Violence visited a rare corner of Belize on Monday morning, Monday, when 36-year-old Aaron Scott Lindo lost his life after being shot multiple times on Dog Valley Road.
According to police reports, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area around 6:45 AM. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of Lindo, a labourer from Double Head Cabbage Village, who had suffered several gunshot wounds. Witnesses stated that Lindo was walking with two companions when assailants emerged from nearby bushes and opened fire.
Initial investigations conducted by the Ladyville Police Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) revealed that Lindo was on his way to catch a bus when he came under attack from the shooters, who came from the bushes. The body now awaits a post-mortem examination.
Officer Commanding Eastern Division, ACP Hilberto Romero, responded to reports of inadequate response time by stating that police motorcycle patrols in nearby Bermudian Landing and mobile patrols from Burrell Boom were deployed as soon as they received the information. Moving forward, he continued, “We have the River Valley Patrol and certainly, I think an additional patrol will be based in the area” to ensure the safety of residents.
Police urge anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
