Verdes FC issue formal apology for incident at PLB 2024-2025 Closing Championship Ceremony

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: On April 29, 2025, Verdes Football Club issued a formal apology to Sergio Chuc, President of the Football Federation of Belize, regarding an incident that occurred during the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2024-2025 Closing Championship Ceremony at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday, April 26, 2025. The letter, signed by Verdes FC’s management in representation of the entire club, including its staff and players, expressed sincere regret for the disruption caused during the event.

The incident took place during Chuc’s official remarks when Verdes FC players, still energized from their victory, engaged in celebratory actions that, according to Verdes’ apology, inadvertently disrupted the ceremony. This led to chanting from fans, causing a temporary delay.

“Verdes FC deeply regrets this incident and wishes to assure the Football Federation of Belize that it was never our intension [sic] to undermine the dignity of your position or the importance of your message,” Verdes said in their apology, clarifying their position.

“We hold the office of the presidency and its executive in the highest regards.”

Verdes FC further reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, acknowledging the importance of maintaining respect during official events.

“Verdes FC remains fully committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and best practices in football,” the letter stated, pledging to implement internal guidelines for players and technical staff to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Verdes FC pledged to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

“We are committed to implementing internal protocols to ensure such incidents do not recur,” Verdes promised.

Verdes ended the apology saying the club remains dedicated to the growth and development of the sport, working collaboratively with the FFB executive to ensure continued progress at all levels.

“As we prepare to represent Belize on the regional stage in the upcoming Concacaf competitions, we do so not merely to participate, but to compete at the highest level with integrity, discipline, and national pride,” Verdes concluded.
