By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s U15 Girls Volleyball Team have continued their impressive performance in the 1st Under 15 Central American Girls Invitational Volleyball Championship, securing their second consecutive victory on Friday. The tournament, taking place at the Instituto Nicaragüense de Deportes (IND) Volleyball Gymnasium, saw Belize overcoming the hosts Nicaragua in a thrilling four-set match on the third day of competition.

Belize triumphed over Nicaragua with a 3-1 win, recording set scores of 25-23, 29-27, 22-25, and 27-25. This victory follows their earlier 3-0 win against Honduras, with set scores of 25-14, 25-17, and 25-12.

Coach José Fontes expressed pride in his team’s performance, highlighting their resilience and determination.

“It was a first game with some complications, mainly emotional, but that is normal at their age. I am pleased with the desire they showed to win,” Fontes remarked after their initial match. Their second game against Nicaragua showed the team’s ability to handle pressure and secure crucial points.

Belize’s initial game against Guatemala on opening day, Wednesday, December 11, was postponed due to Belize’s late arrival due to their delayed flight.

“Guatemala has agreed to play it at 8 am Sunday morning.  So, both Belize and Guatemala have two matches tomorrow,” Belize Volleyball Association President Allan Sharp told Breaking Belize News. Sharp explained that Belize would have lost the match by default if Guatemala didn’t agree.

“It’s a first time for the tournament, so no one wants a default,” he explained.

The tournament has also featured strong performances from other teams on Friday. Costa Rica remains undefeated, having secured their third consecutive win by defeating Guatemala 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-15).

El Salvador also secured a victory against Honduras, winning 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-16) improving their record to two wins and one loss. Meanwhile, Honduras have suffered three defeats in as many matches.

The upcoming matches on Saturday feature Guatemala facing El Salvador at 2:30 pm, followed by a clash of the undefeated teams, Costa Rica and Belize, at 4:30 pm. The day will conclude with Nicaragua taking on Honduras at 6:30 pm.

Belize’s continued success in the U15 Girls AFECAVOL Volleyball Championship underscores the team’s hard work, dedication, and the support of their coaches and families. With two wins under their belt, Belize is well-positioned as they prepare for their next challenge against Costa Rica.

Congratulations to the Belize U15 Girls Volleyball Team for their outstanding performance and best of luck in their upcoming matches!
