By Breaking Belize News Staff: In an unexpected court decision, 26-year-old Errolyn Vonetta August, a mother of three and a call center agent at Ready Call, was cleared of drug possession charges despite being found with a small amount of marijuana exceeding Belize’s legal threshold. August, a resident of Kings Park in Belize City, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this week following her arrest on October 24, when police discovered 11.14 grams of marijuana—just 1.14 grams above the legal limit—hidden under her breast and in her purse during a search on Caesar Ridge Road.
August, who represented herself, pleaded guilty to the possession charge and explained her use of marijuana as a personal remedy for chronic pain, high blood pressure, and post-surgery discomfort following three C-sections. She detailed her reasons to Senior Magistrate Court #3, who showed leniency and dismissed the charge under Section 59-B, allowing August to leave without a penalty despite her guilty plea.
