By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A San Pedro mother is out on bail after being accused of neglecting her two young daughters, aged 3 and 5.
Priscilla Cal, 31, was found asleep at a shop stall while her children were discovered wandering alone on a street in the DFC area on October 22, 2024.
Police were alerted by a concerned neighbor who reported the unattended children.
Officers arrived to find Cal and her daughters at a nearby vegetable shop, where they noted a strong smell of alcohol on Cal.
Investigations revealed she had left her children around 11 a.m. and did not return until the police were called.
In court, Cal pleaded not guilty to the charge of child neglect and was granted bail of $1,000.
As part of her bail conditions, she must report to the San Pedro Police Station every Friday and is prohibited from contacting her children or witnesses.
The Human Services Department has taken temporary custody of the children while the case proceeds.
