By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Israel’s military announced it killed a Hamas commander, Mohammad Abu Itiwi, who participated in the October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel and was also employed by the U.N. aid agency, UNRWA.
According to Reuters, the military claims Itiwi was involved in the murder and abduction of Israeli civilians.
UNRWA confirmed Itiwi’s employment and stated he was among those named in a letter from Israel alleging that staff members were affiliated with armed groups, including Hamas.
The agency has previously fired 9 staff members in connection with the attacks.
Israel has called for urgent investigations into the involvement of UNRWA employees in the October 7 incidents, amid growing tensions between Israel and the agency since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict.
