By Horace Palacio: As Belize marks 43 years of independence, the Belize Defence Force (BDF) has reflected on the role its military has played in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, unity, and peace.
In a statement following the country’s national celebrations, the BDF commended the men and women in uniform for their continued dedication and service. The force noted its efforts in ensuring the success of the events, including providing security for parades and public gatherings.
“Our soldiers’ resilience and strength are a source of national pride,” the statement said. “As we look back on over four decades of independence, we honor the bravery of those who defend our nation and uphold its freedom.”
Belize gained its independence from Britain on September 21, 1981. The BDF remains a central institution in maintaining the country’s security and sovereignty.
