By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: In a heartening display of community support, the Community Policing Unit has distributed school bags to children in the Cayo district, marking a significant effort to ease the back-to-school transition.
Commander of Community Policing Howell Gillett says that the initiative underscores the police’s commitment to fostering trust and strengthening relationships within the community.
“When the police engage in charitable activities like this, it helps to humanize the organization and fosters trust within the community. It shows that officers care about the well-being of children and the future of the community.
It is one of our contributions to help as many children to stay in school. There are many families struggling to afford basic school supplies, and this gesture can alleviate some of that burden, ensuring that students have the tools they need to succeed,” Gillett explained.
Gillett said that investing in our children’s education is an investment in the future stability and prosperity of our community.
Gillett says that through initiatives like these, they hope to inspire a collective sense of civic responsibility and demonstrate that everyone, including law enforcement, has a vital role in uplifting and supporting one another.
