By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Mexico’s Attorney General’s office revealed on Thursday that it has not yet received detailed flight information from U.S. authorities regarding the transfer of two prominent drug traffickers to the U.S. last month.
According to Reuters, the U.S. Department of Justice was asked to provide records on the flight’s pilot, aircraft, and customs authorizations.
This request follows the July 25 detention of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, a Sinaloa Cartel co-founder, and Joaquin Guzman Lopez, the son of “El Chapo” Guzman, at a New Mexico airfield.
Mexico is probing whether the arrests, which were made without prior notice to its government, involved any illegal actions.
Zambada’s lawyer claims he was forcibly taken by Guzman Lopez, while Guzman Lopez’s lawyer disputes this.
Additionally, Mexican authorities are investigating the murder of federal lawmaker Hector Cuen, allegedly linked to the arrest, and the disappearance of two bodyguards.
U.S. Ambassador Ken Salazar clarified that no U.S. personnel were on the ground when Zambada and Guzman Lopez boarded the plane and took off.
