By Aaron Humes: Ten days before she was to take the stage to meet her successor and less than a month before the end of her reign, Kendall Morgan 78th Queen of the Bay, has had her title revoked and successor crowned in her place.
The reason, according to the Association of Former Queens of the Bay and the National
Queen of the Bay Committee, is what is described as “several violations of” the terms of her contract, which was signed on November 23, 2023.
The organizations say Morgan was verbally warned several times for “instances of bullying, cyberbullying, and general discourteous and disrespectful behaviour,” in contravention of Sections 5, 10, 11, 12 and 13 of the contract.
In particular, Section 5 of the contract states the following: She will, at all times, comport herself in a manner befitting of the dignity and image of the Queen of the Bay. (This will also include posts made on social media.) If at any time her conduct is considered to have a negative or demeaning ef ect to the title of Queen of the Bay, the Committee
has the right to caution her verbally and in writing and advise that if such behavior persists three
(3) times the committee will proceed to rescind the Crown.” The other sections have to do with participation in public engagements, raising any concerns or queries, or providing notice of
plans to leave the country.
Despite the efforts of organizers to support Morgan, they say, she refused their help and a first warning letter was issued in January. A meeting was held in July, and thereafter the decision was made to limit her interactions with the candidates, but the violations continued.
The Association and Committee say they still want to help Morgan but have “zero tolerance” for bullying of any kind.
Morgan will retain the prizes she won, including and not limited to the following: a title property in
Belize Rural and a bachelor’s degree Scholarship to the University of Belize.
The 79th Queen will be designated next Saturday, August 24, and crowned on September 10.
