Ministry of Immigration aims to improve customer service following altercation at Western Border

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Immigration officer Saul Lisbey has been charged for physically assaulting a Belizean woman who was re-entering Belize through the Western Border on May 6, 2024.

Surveillance footage shows Lisbey exiting his cubic approaching the woman and pushing her to the ground after the woman complained of him taking too long to stamp her passport.

CEO in the Ministry of Immigration Tanya Santos says that Lisbey was placed on administrative leave.

CEO Santos says that the Ministry continues to work with the police and the Ministry of Public Service pending his interdiction.

“The Ministry of Immigration does not countenance nor condone that type of behavior and would certainly not want to see people who behave in that fashion within this Ministry. While we are guided by due process and the various statutes that govern the public service, we assure the public that we will be pursuing this to the fullest extent possible,” Santos stated.
