By Breaking Belize News Staff: Ignatius Williams, 30, changed his not guilty plea to guilty in the case against him for the rape of a woman which happened inside her home in 2019.
Williams appeared in the High Court before Justice Candace Nanton on Tuesday and on advice from his attorney Arthur Saldivar, changed his plea to guilty. He is accused of raping a 33-year-old woman inside her home during a home invasion on August 17, 2019.
Williams allegedly broke into the home around 8:00 a.m. and held a knife to the woman’s throat while forcing her into a room and raping her. With his guilty plea, the victim is now spared from having to relive the horrific ordeal in court.
Sentencing has been deferred until January 17, 2024 when a mitigation plea will be heard on his behalf. He was initially remanded to prison on the rape charge and granted bail but a firearm offense later landed him back in jail. That gun charge is still pending.
