By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): An 88-year-old farmer from Yo Creek Village is recovering at the Northern Regional Hospital after being stabbed Tuesday morning in what police are investigating as an attempted murder.
The elderly man was admitted to the hospital around 10:00 a.m. on February 24, 2026, with stab wounds to the chest and arm.
Initial investigations reveal that around 9:00 a.m., the victim was working at Los Panchos Farm along Tower Hill Estate, between Yo Creek and San Lazaro villages, when he was approached by another man known to him only as “Negro Lopez.”
The suspect allegedly accused the elderly farmer of eating his groceries before picking up a farm fork and throwing it at him, causing the injuries.
Despite being wounded, the victim reportedly removed the fork from his chest and made his way toward the main road, where a passing woman assisted and transported him to the hospital.
Police visited the scene and recovered a farm fork, which was processed as evidence. The injured man remains in stable condition.
Officials have detained a 48-year-old farmer in connection with the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
