By Breaking Belize News Staff: On September 5th, the Government of Belize and the Inter-American Development Bank finalized a loan agreement valued at up to seven million US dollars. The deal was signed during the Belize Investment Summit in San Pedro Town and is aimed at boosting the country’s workforce.

The initiative, called the Program to Improve Labor Force Participation and Employability in Belize, is designed to equip Belizeans with the training and resources needed to meet modern job market demands.

The program will expand access to technical and vocational education, create new opportunities for young people, and provide specialized support for women and migrants. By doing so, officials say, it will directly address skills gaps while boosting participation in the workforce.

The IDB financing includes a $7 million loan, a $1 million grant, and co-financing through Taiwan’s ICDF. Leaders at the summit hailed the program as a step toward building a more competitive and inclusive labor force.
