By Aaron Humes: A traffic accident on Saturday night in Cotton Tree village in the Cayo District has left one person dead, and three others injured.
According to police, 48-year-old Ana Rivera died from severe head and body injuries.
Around 8:45 p.m. Rivera was a passenger in a black Lincoln Navigator being driven by 51-year-old Jose Aguilar, headed toward Belmopan. Between miles 45 and 46 on the George Price Highway Aguilar had changed lanes trying to avoid an oncoming red pickup truck; however, the pickup reportedly swerved into him, and they had a head-on collision.
The truck was being driven at the time by 31-year-old Jerson Alcantara, accompanied by passenger, 27-year-old Tania Duran.
Aguilar received injuries to the face, chest, and elbow; Alcantara received injuries to the legs and complained of pain in his chest; and Duran received a broken ankle and complained of pain in the abdomen.
Police investigations continue.
